In Loving Memory, Stan Hensley

10/20/2025

A friend of the Trials community, Stan Hensley, passed away October 13, 2025.

Stan was a huge part of the RMTA as well as the NATC, working as a Sporting Steward for many years and hosting numerous national events.

From Chris Hertrich:
“You were never unsure of Stan's opinion and always knew right away if he felt you were on the wrong track about something. This trait led to numerous interesting discussions and was balanced with a deep love of the sport and an interest in helping any rider as much as he could, regardless of ability and name recognition.  Through his involvement with Gas Gas as a dealer, he essentially 'sponsored'  a large proportion of the club although most of those riders never realized how much help they were getting.  He got many riders started in trials, many more achieved higher levels with his assistance, and many got back on the pegs and back riding much quicker due to his assistance whenever needed.

I'm not sure how many events he ended up setting, but it was a rare year that he didn't do at least 2 or 3 and set many national level events.  As a trialsmaster he was well known and 'appreciated' by the pro class especially.  If you have a spectacular CO national section in your memory, I can safely bet Stan set it.  As a trials master, he was not shy about helping riders stretch their boundaries.  Like many other riders at different levels did (although some phrased it differently), I once asked him how we were supposed to get through a particular section and he answered, 'I have no idea, that's your problem, figure it out!'  And we did.”

Stan will be deeply missed. His legacy lives on in every rider he helped and every event he shaped.  The trials community is richer for having known him.
